The year 1997 was marked in the world of watchmaking with commemorating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823). Unanimously recognized as the greatest watchmaker of all time, Breguet was born in 1747 in the Swiss city of Neuchatel.

He moved to France at the age of 15 years and there acquired a solid theoretical and practical training before founding his establishment in 1775, in Paris's Ile de la Cité, beginning a career dominated by the dizzying virtuosity and artistry, rigor scientific and technical innovation, as well as commercial daring and a great sense of human relations.
